Dr Palaniappan completed her training in the reputable Royal Free and University College London Psychiatry Training Scheme. She has international experience having worked in the UK and then New Zealand as a Consultant Psychiatrist and Psychogeriatrician over the past 5 years.
Dr Palaniappan consults on a wide range of psychiatric conditions affecting adults and older adults, such as mood, anxiety, psychotic, cognitive and neuropsychiatric disorders, dementia, grief and adjustment disorders, patients with co-existing physical illness, transcultural issues and substance misuse. Other interest areas are medico-legal aspects including capacity assessments and management of behaviours that challenge in the context of a dementia diagnosis including in long-term care settings. Dr Palaniappan has expertise in providing ECT and rTMS (repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation). She is also a skilled psychotherapist providing various targeted and solution focussed interventions in the provision of care within the recovery oriented framework.
Dr Palaniappan is enthusiastic about her work and is fully committed to providing professional, holistic and evidence-based mental health care with the aim of assisting people to live rich and full lives. She works in collaboration with her patients, their families, carers and other professionals involved in her patients care to build their strengths and resilience. She respects people’s dignity and works with integrity and compassion.
Dr Palaniappan will provide Opinion and Report MBS Item 291 and sees her patients both face to face, including in her clinic and at aged care homes, and via Telehealth.
